MEHSA Rd 9 – Outback HS Laurinburg, NC

Round 9 of the 2010 season was held August 29th at Outback ATV Park in Laurinburg, NC. This was the first Mideast race for me but seeing as how it was the shortest distance for a race that I can remember (2 hours), I had to check it out!

I just have to say that leaving the house at 6AM instead of 2-3AM ROCKS!!! When I arrived at the park I was greeted with plenty of parking and shade. I had arranged to meet up with Michael Limerick of Limerick Photo to hang out and shoot together. I also saw quite a few Wilmington riders there, as well as quite a few guys from the NCHSA crowd.

If you like Brown Jug type “soil”, this was your kind of course. It looked plenty fast but some rain sure would have helped with the dust without hurting the course. This was the first time I ever watched quads race, although I didn’t stay for the afternoon quad race and I also missed the PeeWee race. Sorry, but the lure of being home by 5:30 caught me and I took off early.

There was some good racing to be seen and the folks that I knew all seemed to enjoy the course alot. I plan to head up for the GoldMine race at Carolina Powersport Promotions because I really like that place and Evan loves the sport. Hope to see a great race there also.

All of my photos from this race are uploaded, you can view them HERE. I welcome any comments or suggestions as always.

NCHSA Rd 10 – KeepItRoostin.com, Boonville, NC

Round 10 of the 2010 season was held August 8th at the KeepItRoostin.com (Boonville XC) in Boonville, NC. This race was hosted by keepitroostin.com and the Welborn family. It was an exciting event last year and this year was more of the same.

The weather cooperated yielding a dry & sunny day. Temperatures were cooler than they had been but it stilled warmed which really sucks when you’re as out of shape as I am. There was some great racing to be seen and it made the heat much more bearable (the shade helped too). The OffRoad Junkies crew were in attendance, which made it more entertaining for me. Be sure to check out the race report for this race over at FTI Racing, it’s always entertaining.

Hope everyone enjoys the “break” and keeps in touch with various other races you may participate in. Photos are uploading now and should be viewable shortly. You can find them HERE. I welcome any comments or suggestions as always. Enjoy!

NCHSA Rd 9 – Mountain Challenge II, Wilkesboro, NC

Round 9 of the 2010 season was held July 25th at Mountain Challenge II  in Wilkesboro, NC. I missed the first race there this year due to an illness and was looking forward to it.

The ride up wasn’t too bad and I was pleasantly surprised to see the temp drop to 73 when I got within 15 minutes of the course. Unfortunately, that didn’t last too long as the temps quickly climbed into the triple digits.

There was some great racing going on and I have to congratulate TJ Snow on his first “1st Overall” finish! I’m a terrible writer and don’t have the patience to pretend to be so I’ll just post links to the photo gallery for this race and hope everyone finds something they like.

Be sure to check out Rae’s pics from the Noon & Afternoon races at Blue Jackal Photography

Defend your Riding Rights in NC

If you live/ride in or around Burke County and want to continue to do so, please make every effort to be at the Burke County Public Hearing July 20th at 6PM.

Main highlight is a 65db sound ordinance which would effectively STOP almost all riding. HERE is a nice db chart in case you don’t realize just how low 65db is.

Here is a link to the Proposed ZTA Amendment and Ordinance .

I wish I were able to attend, but the 5hr ride is a bit prohibitive for me. Please consider attending if you are close, as these things tend to spread to surrounding areas quickly once they get a foothold.

NCHSA Rd 7 – Denver Classic, Denver NC

Round 7 of the 2010 season was held June 27th at the Denver Classic in Denver, NC. This was a popular venue both times I was there & the NCHSA raced there last year and it was the same this past weekend.

The weather cooperated with no rain which can make Denver a real mudder, instead dust and HEAT were the words of the day in the open areas. The woods offered some much welcomed cooler temps and cleared air. Denver also has a great stream for cooling off/relaxing in. This was also the first race that my wife attended also, and she was VERY thankful for the creek! Along with e hot weather came some hot racing action. It was alot of fun watching folks battle it out in the various races throughout the day.

I try to get good shots of the starts but the dust made that just about impossible after the first 2-3 riders blew past bringing a huge dust cloud with them. I also didn’t get shots of the Mini D &  Women D starts as I went to the Trackside Church for a few moments. Big thanks to them for the great music from the band Bestowed and the great eats Saturday evening.

Looking forward to Union SC race in 2 weeks and hoping that the weather gives us a small break from the scorchers we’ve been having lately. Hope everyone has a safe & Happy 4th of July!! I’m going to get a few more wallpapers together from the earlier races in the season, so if you have an image in mind that you think would make a great wallpaper be sure to let me know.

NCHSA Rd 6 – Pilot Mountain, Morganton NC

Round 6 of the 2010 season was held June 6th at Pilot Mountain a.k.a. GoldMine a.k.a. Carolina Powersports Promotions in Morganton, NC. I had a great time at this one last year and was looking forward to it again this year.

I also decided this would be a good one to bring my older son along for since he only had 2 more days of school and would be OK that I usually get home around midnight. Evan, once again extended his gracious hospitality and offered the two of us somewhere to crash for the evening and it ended up being a lifesaver! …. (more on that later)

The area had received bits of rain all week which had the woods sections in prime condition. The open sections unfortunately could have used a bit more rain to help with the dust, but it’s a fine line between a “bit” and a “mudder”. Evan and his crew watered the driveway/parking areas and what they could reach with the nozzle of the open sections which helped greatly with those areas. Unfortunately there were also a few injuries, one of which required an airlift out for one rider, from what I have heard so far the injured riders are all OK and are recovering. The injuries in the earlier races resulted in a specific woods jump I was looking forward to being pulled…..bummer, but safety first! There is alot of discussion on the NCHSA forums about scheduling this one earlier or later in the year to avoid such dry/hot conditions. I’m pretty sure that is out of CPP’s hands, but be sure to use the rate-a-race on the NCHSA site to voice your opinions and hopefully it will make a difference.

My son started feeling bad early on in the day and by the Mini ABC race was looking pretty bad. I walked back to Evans’ place and had him relax for a bit because he didn’t want to leave early. Unfortunately he never fully recovered and we ended up heading for home halfway through the morning race. Big thanks for the kindness everyone showed him and it affirms just how great a group of people the NCHSA really is. He had a blast, and I will be bringing him back soon. I do apologize for leaving so quickly without saying goodbye to anyone.

Myself and Chance (my son) owe Jimmy Compton a HUGE thanks for rescuing the keys from the front seat of my car after Chance left them there and promptly LOCKED them inside the car. I knew I was in trouble when I told my son to open the car and he asked for the keys..
